Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Educated at the University of Louisville graduating in 1856, he was a physician and banker in Lebanon, Indiana At the start of the Civil War he raised troops and was commissioned an officer in the 10th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was later commissioned Colonel and commander of the 72nd Indiana Volunteer Infantry which was a member unit of Colonel John Thomas Wilder’s famous "Lightning Brigade". On March 13, 1865 he was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers "for long, faithful and gallant service". (bio by: Steve Dunn)
