Edythe Mae Miller Fisher, 87, passed away Nov. 8, 1998, at the Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George. She was born Oct. 21, 1911, to James Leslie and Anna Selma Woehrle Miller. She was born on her dad's homestead, rural route, Banner County, Neb. She married James Bernard Fisher Aug. 4, 1938, in Washington. He died Aug. 11, 1985.
Edythe went to a county rad school where all eight grades were taught in a one room schoolhouse. The eighth-grade exams were given at the county seat in Harrisburg, by the county school superintendent. She then went to high school in Bushnell, Neb.
Upon graduation, she attended the Grand Island Business College. From there, she went to live with an aunt in Sioux City, Iowa, where she worked at the Chicago North Western Railroad. In 1936, she went to the state of Washington, where she met and married James B. Fisher. Jim was a pipe and steam fitter, so they traveled quite a bit. Both worked in the Bremerton Navy Yard during WWII. In 1945, they moved east of the mountains to Keller, Wash., where they had property and started a cattle ranch. In 1948, they sold their ranch and stock, going back to Bremerton where Edythe bought a neighborhood grocery store and Jim went with the Army Engineers to Sipan. In 1950, they returned to ranching for another two years and in 1952 they moved to Las Vegas, Nev., where Edythe worked for 25 years.
They bought property in the Pine Valley Ranchos in 1971, where they built a home. After Jim died in 1985, Edythe decided to sell the home in Pine Valley, then moved to St. George, where she had resided since. Edythe was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a worker at the St. George Temple.
She is survived by one sister, Verna Wentz of Kimball, Neb.: several nieces and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: roy and Charles Miller and a sister, Alice Kramer.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at 2 p.m. at Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, 110 South Bluff St. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the St. George Cemetery under the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, St. George 674-2454.
