She was born on the Darnell farm south of Paris on May 3, 1921, the daughter of James E. and Lou Bell Darnell.

She graduated the 8th grade at an old country school on RT KK south of Paris. The family needed her to help at home, so she did not get to finish her education. When she was young she would babysit children and adults with in the rural community sometimes having to walk for miles to help. After her father passed away her and her mother moved to town where she worked as a waitress at "Papa Wheelers Beer Joint", that's what she called it. This is where she met George Miller, and they were married on December 31, 1952 in Crown Point, Indiana. Yes he took his country girl to the city. They remained in Portage IND until his retirement. They then moved back to Monroe County, MO. They were avid campers even tough Doris thought it was a lot of work for her, she never complained. They also enjoyed watching the children play baseball at the fairgrounds, where they had to replace a couple windshields, but they liked to watch from the car. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1992. After George passed away she lived alone, she enjoyed walking down town and riding the OATS bus, didn't matter where the bus would go if there was an empty seas she was in it. She then became a resident at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home where she enjoyed playing BINGO. Doris was known for her beautiful smile, she could make everyone smile that was having a bad day.
