She proudly served as a member of the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II, and has remained active in veteran's organizations since that time. She was a member of American Legion Post 33 in St. James, MN, a member and volunteer in Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5606, in Kansas City, MO, and a life member of the VFW National Home. Her past employments included two airlines: Braniff and Mid-Continental; and years of volunteer work at North Kansas City Hospital, St. Gabriel School, Eastwood Elementary, and Eastgate Junior High School. Ella was a loving wife and mother with a very outgoing and engaging personality. She was a friend to everyone, and quick to give support to those in need. She loved animals, wild and domestic, and enjoyed every holiday. You could always tell which holiday was near by the sweatshirt or sweater Ella was wearing. She was an avid gardener, faithful member of the Bridge Clubs at Hillside Christian Church and St. Gabriel in the Northland, and an ardent sports enthusiast who wore Royal blue in summer and Chiefs red in winter

She is survived by her husband retired Major Clarence H. Hoffman of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department; two sons: Michael & wife Linda of Olathe, KS, and Patrick of New York City, NY; one daughter: Kelly & husband Nick Repasky of Smithville, MO; and two granddaughters: Megan & Anna Hoffman. Surviving siblings include sisters: Irene Coffman of Gladstone, MO, Inez Flogstad of St. James, MN, Sue Dove of San Antonio, TX; and brother- and sister-in-laws: Mildred Hoffman of Denton, KS, Merle and Donna Hoffman of Kansas City, MO, Alice and Bruce Horvath of Garfield, AR, Eileen and Bob Bradford of Shawnee, KS; and several nieces & nephews.

The family requests that donations be made to Northcare Hospice or to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 5606 Cancer Fund in lieu of flowers or other gifts.
