A celebration of Bev's life will be Saturday, Oct. 26, at Mount Moriah and Freeman Chapel, 10507 Holmes, Kansas City, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The American Camping Association, 5000 State Road 67 North, Martinsville, IN 46151-9904. Bev was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Kansas City to Marvin and Tropha Breuer. She had one sister, Shirley Breuer Carroll. She attended UMKC and, following graduation, worked for a time as a second grade school teacher. Her true calling was camping and she worked for most of her life as a camp director encouraging youth to celebrate the camp experience. A former Camp Fire girl herself, she became the first woman camp director of Camp Lake of the Woods, Swope Park, Kansas City. She served on the boards of the American Camping Association and the Girls Scouts. Her philanthropic causes, continued throughout her life, supported all manner of camping adventures, including, the YMCA, the Kansas Nature Conservancy, and Defenders of Wildlife. It was as a member of the Ozark Wilderness Waterways Club where Bev met the love of her life, Stanford Miller. Bev and Stanford were married for 43 years until his death. Her son, Brad, recalls many Ozark canoe trips with a lot of fishing! In addition to her accomplished family, Bev loved golden retrievers, including the training and breeding of champion trackers. She even sent out birth announcements when her beloved Am. Ch. Happy's Sugar and Spice C.D. whelped nine pups! She excelled in needlepoint and was a lifetime patron of the American Needlepoint Guild; advising those whom she taught that the back of the canvas "must look as good as the front!" She is survived by son, Bradford, wife, Trina Blake, and their children, Dylan, Nathan, Ruby, and Daniel; stepson, Hans Miller, wife, Francoise, and their children, Stanford Miller (Shannon) and Alexandra Miller- Shoulders (Christopher); four great- grandchildren; and nephews, Greg Carroll and Chris Carroll, the children of her late sister. Arrangements: Penwell-Gabel, (913) 768-6777.
