Jack Miles, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather died peacefully surrounded by loving family in Windermere Care Centre, Vancouver, B.C.
He was born in Winnipeg to Lewis and Gwyneth Miles and was pre-deceased by his brother and sister. A true gentleman who embodied the deepest Christian values of kindness, love and commitment to peace and justice, Jack lived by the dictum of Mark Twain that he would quote with a chuckle "let us endeavour so to live that when we die even the undertaker will be sorry". The centre of his life was his wife Barbara Christeena and their marriage of more than 67 years was an inspiration to family and friends. Jack served in the RCAF during WWII and was very active in Veterans Against Nuclear Arms. The latter years of his working career as a Manpower Counsellor with the Federal Government were his happiest. When he was residence manager of St. Stephens College University of Alberta, one of his employees was deaf so he learned sign language. Jack loved music and art, was a gifted violinist and sang in many choirs and in musical theatre. He was an avid painter.
He is survived by his three sons Colin, Evan and Lindsay, their wives, Winnie, Brenda and Edwina, grand-children Glenn, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Jillian, Michelle, Jessica, great grand-children, Sydney, Casey Jean, Vivian and stepchildren Rosemary, Tony, Leighla, Kyle and Jenelle. The family would like to thank the staff of Windermere Care Centre for their TLC. What a fine man! What a great life!
Funeral at St. Andrews United Church Edmonton, December 31, 11:00 am with interment at Northern Lights Cemetery beside Barbara. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
