Ida Miles, 85, was born January 7, 1929, in Springfield, Missouri. She passed away in Des Moines on July 30, 2014.

Ida was a longtime Eastside resident and was active in the Eastside Neighborhood Association. Miss Ida worked as an usher for the Des Moines Civic Center and was on duty for opening night. She regularly attended the Eastside Senior Center where she was known as the story teller.

Ida was a member of the Des Moines Police Department Citizen Patrol under Chief William Moulder. She was an honorary grandmother to the Des Moines Fire Department Union Members Local 4. Ida was adopted by Michael and Patrice Herrera which increased her family by six honorary grandchildren and seven honorary great-grandchildren. The Des Moines Fire Department brothers and sisters will miss you!

Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Miles; and her mother, Alma Miller.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines.

For her love of animals, donations are being directed to the Animal Rescue League.
