Virginia Anne Milam Allen passed away peacefully on December 24, 2013, surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. She was born to Leila and Arnold Milam on July 8, 1929.
Her husband of 62 years preceded her in death in 2011. She was a loving wife to her husband and a loving and generous mother to Sharon Anne Allen Prewitt and Brenda Allen Huff (Robert). She also leaves four grandsons; Thomas Ryan Prewitt III (Cammie), Cory Allen Prewitt, Robert William Ratton, III (Katie), and David Allen Ratton (Allison) who remember her as one of the kindest and most generous women they have known. She also leaves three great-grandsons, Aubrey and Searcy Prewitt, and Gabe Ratton, plus three great-granddaughters, Sara Kate, Anna, and Ruby Grace Ratton.
Her grandsons remember her as someone who watched and supported everything they did. One of her favorite activities was sitting on the deck at their cabin at Pickwick Lake watching them learn to ride motorcycles, ride jet skis, and water ski.
When she attended Memphis State in the late 1940's, she was second runner up to Miss Memphis State. As a young woman Mrs. Allen worked as a bookkeeper in her husband's electrical business. She was a talented pianist who could play any composition she heard. She was a devout Baptist with a long membership at Bellevue Baptist Church.
Virginia enjoyed spending time with her family and was always very generous with her time, resources, and devotion.
Mrs. Allen and her husband were avid supporters of University of Memphis basketball and could often be seen viewing the games from seats at mid-court.
