Eleanor Mikell Anderson, 84, of Gulfport died Thursday, July 17, 2008 in Gulfport. She was the sixth sibling born to the late Acie and Ollie Showers Mikell on December 20, 1923, in Jefferson Davis County, Silver Creek, MS.

Edna, as she was known, attended Spring Hill Elementary three-room school and Prentiss Normal Industrial Institute High School in Prentiss, MS.

She united in holy matrimony to the late Asa Anderson and to this union four children were born, two of whom preceded her in death.

Edna and Asa lived in several states due to work. While residing in Prentiss, she was employed with Coulter's Cleaners and operated a restaurant. They lived in Gulfport from 1963-1969 and she worked in privates homes. They relocated back to Prentiss to care for her mother and father. In early 1973, they returned to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where she was employed with Harrison County Welfare Department-Home Health and Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) until she retired. She united with the Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Rogers O. Tyler Sr., where she was a member of the Senior Women Mission Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death are three brothers, Adolph, A. M. and Joseph Mikell; two sisters, Annie Donaldson and Fannie Armstrong; a son-in-law, Jerry C. Holloway; three nephews and a niece.

Fond memories of Edna will be cherished by her two daughters, Voygue M. Holloway of Gulfport and Mattie Hartzog (Curtis Wheeler) of Atlanta; one son, Larry Darnell (Jasmine) Anderson, Sr. of Gulfport; one sister, Mamie L. Smith of Silver Creek, MS, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; a caring niece and nephew, Dorothy Jean Murrell and Ronnie Mikell, both of Gulfport; special friends and neighbors, Fannie Thomas, Mae N. Banks and James and Thelma Jordan and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church, Gulfport with visitation two hours before. Burial Pine Ridge Gardens, 28th Street, Gulfport.
