Clara D. Mignogna, 97, Altoona, passed away peacefully Monday at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg. She formerly resided in Juniata Gap, Altoona, and subsequently at Graystone Court, Bellemead.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Joseph and Vincenza (Spinazzola) Caputo. She married John A. Mignogna on Sept. 14, 1944, in Altoona at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, and he passed away Nov. 15, 1990.

Surviving are a daughter, Clara A. Tromm and husband, Fred; two grandchildren: Adrienne Stacey and husband, Ralph, and Erik Tromm, all of Altoona; and three great-grandchildren: Cierra, Mackenzie and Ryan Naglowsky, all of Altoona.

Additional beloved family members include three sisters-in-law: Carmela DeRubeis, Florence Mignogna and Mary Mignogna; a brother-in-law, Al Manocchio; five nephews: Dom Manocchio, Joe DeRubeis, Alex DeRubeis, Nick Mignon and Butch Mignogna; two nieces: Gloria Schmidt and Felecia Hantman; as well as many friends and her special caregiver, Stephanie Drenning.

Clara was the last survivor of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by six sisters: Daisy Fenell, Olga Neri, Mary Manocchio, Alma Rheam and Josephine and Genevieve Caputo.

Clara was a 1933 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1934 graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce. She worked at Altoona Coat, Apron and Towel Co. and Steel City Construction, where she retired in 1976 after 32 years of service. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

Clara enjoyed being with her family, to whom she provided love, laughter and wisdom throughout her many years. She enjoyed dining out, family holiday dinners and attending her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's functions. She was affectionately called "MaMaw" by many. All will remember her sweet smile and loving ways.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona (www.stevensmortuary.com), where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Blair Senior Services, Home Nursing Agency or Garvey Manor Nursing Home in memory of Clara.
