Elaine studied voice and piano as a young woman at the Wisconsin School of Music. She attended Luther College, where she was the first female selected as alto solo for the production of Handel's Messiah. She later graduated from UW-Madison with a liberal arts degree.
She married Tom Hall Faile Jr. on June 23, 1945. Elaine taught piano for more than 35 years in both Beaver Dam and Monona, and was a member of the Madison Piano Teacher's Association.
She loved sharing her gift of music with her family and students. Elaine was a longtime active member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church and Ruth Circle. She performed with the Sweet Adelines for many years.
Besides being an avid baseball fan and accomplished seamstress, some of her other hobbies included playing bridge, reading mysteries and doing cross-stitch.
Elaine was very mindful of and never forgot any of her children or grandchildren's birthdays. She was interested in all things Norwegian. Elaine is survived by two daughters, three sons, a daughter-in-law, 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom; son, Douglas; and two brothers, Rolf and Donald.
