Sarah E. Beringson, 97, of Bemidji, formerly of Cass Lake, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at GoldPine Home in Bemidji.
Funeral services were at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cass Lake. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Cass Lake.
She was born Feb. 25, 1914, to John and Louise Michel in Hubbard County. She attended Cass Lake Elementary and High School, graduating in the class of 1932. She married John Beringson on April 26, 1934. They owned and operated Beringson’s Bakery in Cass Lake for 31 years. She was a longtime resident of Cass Lake until she moved into Birch Haven Senior Housing in Bemidji four years ago. She had been a resident of GoldPine since September 2010. Since childhood, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cass Lake. She served as secretary/treasurer and was involved with Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. She also was an active member of the Cass Lake American Legion Auxiliary. For more than 20 years after her husband’s death, she was employed by the U.S. Forest Service. She took a hiatus from the Forest Service to be her mother’s caretaker until her death in 1991. She then continued her employment with the Forest Service into her 90s. She was known for her tenacity and strong work ethic.
She is survived by sons, Richard “Dick” (Molly) Beringson of Ocean City, Md., and Jack (Lola) Beringson of Gainesville, Ga.; eight grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, John, and Bill Michel; sisters, Charlotte Hines and Mary Jackson; and a son, Don.
