George Michaels, Age 79, of Ypsilanti, MI, passed away at his home, Saturday, June 19, 2010. He was born December 1, 1930, son of the late Andrew L. & Palmier (Sargeant) Michiels.
Mr. Michaels moved to Belleville from Romulus in 1954, then to Houston in 2004 and returned to Ypsilanti in 2008. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Coflict and Mediterranean from 1951 to 1954. He later worked for Draw Tite, and was a loyal employee for over 32 years. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Belleville where he enjoyed participating in the Men's Club. He loved to travel the world and was a talented photographer, especially of weddings, babies, sports teams and portraits.
Mr. Michaels was extremely devoted to his family. Surviving him are his wife of 57+ years, Leona M. (Kish) Michaels, four children Debbora M. (Kurt) Olin of Houston, Texas, Mark G. Michaels of Houston, Texas, Jeffrey K. Michaels of Kansas City, Missouri and Lois M. (Darick) Golden of Belleville, MI, 8 grandchildren Ryan Michaels, Heather Wright, Nicholas Olin, Darick Golden, Andrew Golden, Stephanie Michaels, Katherine Olin, and David Michaels, 2 great-granddaughters Mya Carrion and Liliana Vera. His 2 loyal caregivers Lawrence Bradley and Jennifer Bond. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Maurice, Arthur and Marcel.
Visitation will be 5-8 PM Monday, June 21, 2010 and 12-8 PM Tuesday with a 7:30 PM Scripture Service at David C. Brown Funeral Home, Belleville. His Funeral Mass will be 10 AM Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 409 W. Columbia Ave., Belleville. Father Thomas H. Cusick will serve as Celebrant. Entombment will be in Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, MI will full Military Honors.
