Dorothy Margaret Meyers September 5, 1925 - August 1, 2010

"1 don't know, when you look on your life don't you, what do you think about your life? I think I've had a good life - I haven't had everything but I don't think anybody else has. I've had my share of sorrow & sickness & so have other people…but you know the good…that's what life is, a mosaic of lights & darks & grays, & you go through one phrase & come into another…:" - Dorothy Meyers to Robert Meyers approx 1986.

Dorothy Margaret Meyers peacefully drew her last breath at the Sun City home she shared with her youngest child, Mary Warren in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 1, 2010 while surrounded by three of her four children & the recorded sounds of her happy self & family from over 40 years ago.

Dorothy was born the first child of Josephine F. Nicolette Harrison & John J. Harrison on September 5, 1925 in San Francisco, California. Dorothy's youth found her bedbound long term on two separate occasions, first by pernicious anemia, then by infantile paralysis. It was while bedbound that Dorothy discovered her artistic talents. She was further encouraged by her parents who enrolled her in a home-study art instruction course.

During high school Dorothy was invited to join an exclusive art society, the first of many such affiliations. In the mid-1940's Dorothy went to a photography studio for a portrait as a gift to her parents. In chatting with the photographer it was decided she should bring him some of her work. He hired her to drape & pose clients but most importantly, he trained her in tinting photographs - from barely a hint of color to a full heavy oil painting directly on the photographic print. Dorothy's talent, skill & delicate touch made her ideally suited.

Dorothy continued to add color to a black and white world in this way for over five decades. From high school graduates, to brides to precious keepsakes of loved ones as well as landscapes & still fifes, her work graces homes & businesses throughout the United States.

Dorothy also exhibited skill in sketching, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, reverse glass painting, oils…and received a number of awards & touching notes of appreciation over the years. Dorothy drew her last sketches just this past February, simple landscapes .from her imagination.

On November 16, 1947, Dorothy married John W. Meyers of Oakland. Together they had four children & throughout various organizations, particularly the Pro-Life Movement, touched countless other lives. John passed in May of 2007, just six months before their 60th wedding anniversary.

After living in the Northern California, Washington state & Los Angeles county areas, the Meyers settled on The Farm in Wildomar in 1987. In November of 2002 they came to the Sun City Villas. By then, Dorothy was housebound. In September, 2006, Dorothy became bedbound once again after suffering spinal fractures due to a fall. By December, 2006 a heart failure diagnosis brought Ramona VNA & Hospice of Hemet into her life.

After three months, the end of February, 2007 found John & Dorothy both on Hospice home care. The world now came to Dorothy's bedside yet she continued to touch lives & spread joy & beauty. Few visitors ever left her without a smile.

Dorothy is survived by her four children: Theresa (& George) Sullivan of Olathe, CO; Robert (& Sandy Stirling) Meyers of Bryan, TX; Kathy (& Bob) Trujillo of Orange, CA and Mary Warren of Sun City, CA; 16 grandchildren & 17 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at Evans-Brown Sun City on Sunday, August 15 from 1-5 with a Rosary at 4pm. A Funeral Mass Mon., August 16 at 1o:3oam held at St. Vincent Ferrer in Sun City with Burial following at Riverside National Cemetery at 12: wpm. If you wish to honor Dorothy, donations maybe made in her name to Pro-Life organizations or to Ramona VNA & Hospice of Hemet, California.
