Anton A. "Tony" Meyer, 97, of Ramona, died May 8, 2009, at his home.

Born March 3, 1912, on a family farm near Ramona, he was the son of J.F. Gerhardt and Wilhelmine H. (Brandt) Meyer.

He was a commander with the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1966. He lived in San Francisco, Calif., during the winter, returning to Ramona during the summer until 2000, when he permanently moved to Ramona.

Seven brothers, Ernest Meyer, Henry Meyer, Fred Meyer, Gerhard Meyer, Frank Meyer, Martin Meyer, and John Meyer, and three sisters, Anna Sonne, Margaret Smith, and Magdalene Bentz preceded him in death.

Survivors include a brother, George Meyer of Ellinwood.

Services were Tuesday afternoon at St. John Lutheran Church, Tampa, with the Reverend Clark Davis officiating.

Burial with full military honors followed at North Tampa Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with the City of Ramona for a memorial bench in his name or the donor's choice, which may be sent in care of Penwell-Gable Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington KS 67449.
