Jacobine H. "Jackie" (Meyer) Djuvik, 86, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream and former resident of Maywood, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Johnson Healthcare Center in Carol Stream. She was born Nov. 27, 1913, in Gronnegen, Holland.
She immigrated to Forest Park with her family at age 12. Her high school education was interrupted by the need to help with family finances during the early Depression years. Her perseverance allowed her to finish high school 20 years later. She was the youngest woman to be promoted to chief operator at Illinois Bell Telephone.
She is survived by three nieces, Carol Meyer of Barrington, Ruth Stack of Milwaukee and Joyce Djuvik Olson; two nephews, Roy Djuvik of Star Lake, N.Y., and Alf Djuvik of Indiana; a grandniece, the Rev. Manda Stack of Union Grove, Wis.; and a grandnephew, Randy Stack of Delavan, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1996, and a brother, Henry Meyer.
A funeral service took place Monday, Oct. 16, at Hultgren Funeral Home, Wheaton. The Rev. Donald Jones of Windsor Park Manor officiated.
Interment took place in Forest Home Cemetery, Forest Park.
