Ann Metzner, 73, Fort Rice, died Jan. 31, 2002, in a Steele care center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating.

Ann Jean Kuntz was born March 9, 1928, in Mandan, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Dietrick) Kuntz. She married Steve Metzner on Jan. 4, 1952, in Mandan, and they made their home on the farm near Fort Rice for most of their lives together. Ann worked for many years as a cashier at Lloyd's Super Valu, first in Cannon Ball and later in Fort Yates.

She enjoyed crocheting, and made afghans and bedspreads for all of her children and grandchildren. Reading was also a favorite pastime, and she particularly liked the stories of Louis L'Amour. Ann found special joy in time spent with her grandchildren on the farm. The many frequent visitors to her home were always welcomed.

She is survived by her husband, Steve; her sons, Russell and his wife Penny, Fargo, and Steven, Everett, Wash.; her daughters, RoxAnn Metzner and her fiance Steve Rahn, both of Mandan, and Dallas "JoDee" Feist and her husband John, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Chad Metzner and Mandy Spencer and her husband Danny, all of Everett, Wash., Wayne Kaip, Flasher, Valerie Gjefle and her husband Carl, Aberdeen, S.D., Tiffany Metzner and Natalie Metzner, both of Fargo, Dustin Roshau and Carisa Feist, both of Bismarck, Cody Metzner and his wife Ashley, West Fargo, and Lisa Roth and her husband Kori, Mandan; eight great-grandchildren; her brothers, Johnny Kuntz, Plains, Mont., and Florian Kuntz and his wife Ruth, Mandan; her sisters, Emma Senger and Jean Bailey, both of Mandan, and Tillie Masseth, Plains, Mont.; her special friends, Bonita Schmidt and Leon Bohe, both of Bismarck; and her special canine friends, Taco and Buddy.

Her parents; one daughter, Mary Metzner; and two sisters preceded her in death.
