Dorothy Lou Ellen Tubach, passed away in her home in El Centro on Saturday, October 12, 2013.
Dorothy was born in Falls City, Nebraska on October 23, 1924 to Fredrick Augusta and Stella Marie Metzner. She grew up on the family farm with her brother, Stewart, and sister, Ruth. After graduating from high school she attended Western Union College in LeMars, Iowa, completing a teacher training curriculum. She taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in Tructon, Colorado.
On December 12, 1945, she married Eugene Tubach, also from Falls City, Nebraska. They moved to the Imperial Valley in 1953 where they raised their four children; daughter June and three sons, Gary, Roger and Roy.
Dorothy was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in El Centro. She was employed as the church Secretary for many years and later served as the Financial Secretary/Treasurer. She sang in the church choir for 49 years and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Many snow birds will remember her welcoming them to the church at the guest book in the Narthex.
Dorothy worked as the book keeper for the architectural and engineering firm Bryant, Jehle & Associates (Design Sciences, Inc.), and was also the Senior Administrator for the Valley office of the Federal Land Bank. Dorothy was a long-time member and financial secretary of the Women's Ten Thousand Club in El Centro, where she enjoyed taking part in Civic activities and also meeting twice a month to play bridge with her friends. She was also a long-time member of the PEO Sisterhood, and was a past president and treasurer of Chapter GW in El Centro. The organization was a vital part of her life, and her love for these women and her close association with this Sisterhood continued to the end of her life. In addition to her community activities, Dorothy loved to play bridge, and was known for being one of the original ditch bank walkers, a fitness fad unique to the Valley's geography.
February was Dorothy's favorite time of year when she and her husband Gene would host a family reunion that in recent years was attended by four generations of family members. She will be missed by many. Dorothy was a good mother and friend to all that new her.
She is survived by her four children, June (Tony) Fraze of Las Vegas, Gary currently in New Jersey, Roger of El Centro, and Roy of Salinas; her Grandson Teague (Tammy) Tubach and two great grandchildren, Abby and Marley from Gilroy, CA; her sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Metzner and Betty Jane Tubach from Falls City, NE; her brother-in-law, Jim Tubach of Manhattan, KS; and many nephews and nieces.
Dorothy will be remembered for the kindness and acceptance that she showed to everyone she met.
The Tubach family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers, Alejandrina, Maria, Yisell, and Vereniz, and the nurses from Genetiva who took such good care of her the past year.
There will be a memorial celebrating Dorothy's life on Saturday, October 19th at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in El Centro followed by a light lunch in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the First United Methodist Church.
