Katherine Elizabeth Messina Brocato, 87, born Sept. 7, 1924, native Houstonian, passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2011.

Katherine had a precious soul and touched many lives of family, friends, tenants, even strangers. Anyone who knew her was truly blessed by warmth, kindness, concern for others, and her compassionate heart! Katherine volunteered at VA Hospital for many years, and was known as "The Popcorn Lady". She also provided many toiletries and crocheted booties for patients.

Katherine is preceded in death by husband Frank Brocato; parents Bessie and Charles Messina; sisters Marie Mancuso and Bessie Frenza; and granddaughter Katelyn. Survived by sons Sam and Charles Brocato; grandchildren; sister Josephine Salvage; brother Sam Messina; loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Sunday, October 9th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the chapel of Pat H. Foley Funeral Directors. Rosary recitement 7:30 p.m. by Deacon John Murrell from St. Rose of Lima Parish. Funeral Mass: Monday, October 10th at 10 a.m., St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman, Monsignor James Anderson officiating. Interment to follow Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale, Houston.
