Margaret Marie Mantooth, 86, died June 8, 2009, in a Madisonville hospital. Services were June 11, 2009, in Elmwood West United Methodist Church with the Reverend George Butler officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Gap Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola.
Margaret was born May 18, 1923, in Weatherfore to william Thomas and Minnie Gregory Merrell. She moved to Abilene in 1925 and lived in the area for 82 years including Wylie and Potosi, before moving to Hilltop Lakes in 2007. She was a graduate of Wylie High School. Her first husband, Russell Stimatze, was killed during WWII in 1945. She later married Calvin Mantooth. She worked at Sears for more than 30 years, retiring in 1982, and was a 30 year volunteer for Crime Victims Crisis Centere. She was a member of St. Paul UMC from 1950 to 1975 and was a current member of Elmwood West UMC.
Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Robert "Bud" Merrell.
Survivors include one son, David Mantooth and wife Caryn of Hilltop Lakes; one granddaughter, Shonna Wagley of Huntsville; one sister, Othell Greever and husband Orris of Abilene; one brother, John Merrell of Abilene; two step-sons, Fred Mantooth and wife Eleanor and Ed Mantooth and wife Rita; and several nieces and nephews.
