Steven Kipp Merkley, age 70, passed away on December 31, 2004 at Latter Day Saints Hospital.
Born May 11, 1934 in Duchesne to Wilson John and Faye Elizabeth Abbott Merkley. Married Helen Marie Rudy on December 14, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death on January 14, 1993. Married Erma Sorensen Mayhew on April 8, 1993 in the Provo Temple.
Kipp owned and operated a farm that has been in the family for a century. He loved to work the land and make his world a better place. He served on the State Soil Conservation Board, and as a member of the LDS church served in various callings, most recently as an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple. He enjoyed fishing and his greatest joy was spending time with those he loved.
Survived by wife, Erma, Duchesne; children, Rosemarie (Dale) Schmutz, Debra (Wendell) Moon, Steven R (Michelle) Merkley, all of Bountiful; Marilyn (Brent) Crittenden, Gilbert, AZ; 20 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; step-children, Dawnette Browning, Red Oak, IA; DeAnn Bradford, Springville; Darla (Chuck) Hansen, Murray; Glenna Dee Mayhew, Duchesne; 12 step-grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Philip (Elva) Merkley, Layton; Morna (Lloyd) Grant, Duchesne; Donna Odekirk, Kearns; Hal (Janice) Merkley, Idaho Falls; and a sister-in-law, Lorna Merkley, Salt Lake City.
Preceded in death by his wife, parents, and his brother, Kirk.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 in the Duchesne 1st and 3rd Ward Chapel, 130 South 300 East. Friends and Family may call on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday one hour prior at the Church.
Interment in the Duchesne City Cemetery.
