Dorotheia A. Meriwether Birdsong, 80, Mobile, Ala., and formerly of Sarasota, died March 24, 2001.
She was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Sarasota, and moved to Mobile in 1994 from Sarasota. She was a bookkeeper, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Nokomis Methodist Church. She was a former member of Junior Women's Society, Sarasota Alliance for Historic Preservation and Historical Society of Sarasota County.
Survivors include three daughters, C. Janice Rowe of Mobile, Judy Cook of Sarasota and Jennifer Patrick of Robertsdale, Ala.; a son, James T. Jr. of Sarasota; two sisters, Judy Smedley of Burke, Va., and Martha Jasmer of Bradenton; a brother, James Meriwether of Mobile; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, with a service to follow, at Palms Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will be in Palms Memorial Park Cemetery. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, is in charge.

Note: In 1921, Sarasota County had not been formed and the city of Sarasota, where Dorotheia was born, was in Manatee County.
