ST. PAUL - Lillian C. Merchant, 97, of St. Paul, died Monday, Dec. 22. Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Don Greer will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at St. Paul.
Mrs. Merchant was born Jan. 6, 1889, at Wahoo, the daughter of John and Catherine Hansen Larson. They moved to Goodland, Kan., where they lived for seven years. They then moved to the Brayton area, in Greeley County, where she grew up and received her education. She then attended a dressmaking school in Omaha and moved to Wolbach where she owned and operated a dressmaking shop. In 1925 she married Comey Merchant. They lived in Griswold, Iowa. She later moved to Grand Island where she operated an apartment house and later worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. In 1978 she moved to St. Paul to lived at Parkside Plaza. In May 1982 she moved to Heritage Living Center. She was a member of the Methodist faith and while in Grand Island had been active in church work.
Survivors include a son, Robert of St. Paul; a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Joan) Lemmon of Ft. Wayne, Ind., five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
