Ellis Mendelssohn passed away March 18, 2010. He was born March 26, 1926, in Edinburgh, Scotland, to Edward and Ann Mendels-sohn. Ellis served for the British Army in World War II. Following the war, Ellis received his Master Tailor degree from the Tailor and Cutters Academy in England. Ellis married the love of his life, Katherine, in 1949, whom he had met at the age of 6. Ellis and Katherine left Edinburgh in 1955 and made their home in Oklahoma. In 1967, Ellis opened his men's clothing shop, Ellis of Edinburgh, where he worked until his retirement in 2000. He was an avid Scottish Country dancer, as well as an accomplished ballroom dancer. Ellis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katherine Mendelssohn; daughters & sons-in-law: Joy & Lonnie Hamilton, Celine & Brad Ferguson, Leslie & Doug Tatum; grandchildren: Tyler & Lauren Ferguson, Brett, Ryan & Zachary Tatum; siblings: David & Anita Mendelssohn, Louis Mendelssohn, Barry & Sylvia Mendelssohn, Mollie Mendelssohn, Betty Men-delssohn, Edith Woodrow, all of Europe; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thank you to family caregiver, Vernia Johnson. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, March 22, 2010, at the Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel, with interment in Temple B'nai Israel Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Ellis Mendelssohn Patient Care Fund at Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation, 3030 Northwest Expwy., Ste. 1600, OKC 73112.
