Regina "Rea" Esch, 93, of Edwardsville, formerly of Effingham, died at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Effingham, with the Rev. Ted Gall, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Effingham, officiating. No visitation will be held. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hour. Weber and Rodney Funeral Home, Edwardsville, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Esch was born July 5, 1914, in Effingham, the daughter of William H. and Louise (Deibel) Melzer. She married Charles Esch May 23, 1936, in Chicago, and he preceded her in death Nov. 29, 1956.
She worked for 23 years as a bookkeeper for Al's Tire Mart, Effingham. Mrs. Esch was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Edwardsville, a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Effingham, member of the choir, Lydia Guild and was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her son, Robert W. (Candace) Esch of Alhambra; daughter, Gay Esch of Edwardsville; grandchild, Elizabeth A. Esch of Urbana; sister, Lois Newson of Corona, Calif.; two nephews; and one niece. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Eunice Blair; and brothers-in-law, Frank Newson and Otis Blair.
