HAMPTON - John J. Mellon Sr., 67, died Friday, Feb. 10, in Riverside Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Creighton, Pa., and had been a Peninsula resident since 1961.
He retired from P.P.G. Industries as a manager in 1986 after 35 years service.
A veteran of World War II and Korea, he was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 336 and the Air Force Association Community Partners.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Long Mellon; three daughters, Barbara Strickland, Janie Mellon and Susan Mellon, all of Newport News; one son, John J. Mellon Jr. of Hampton; two stepsons, Ronald Long of LaPlata, Md. and Michael Long of Gaithersburg, Md.; four sisters, Rose Smith of Eustis, Fla., Kate Faldowski of Anaheim, Calif., Ann Hatalsky of Pittsburgh, and Virginia Krusper of Winchester, Pa.; three brothers, Alex Mellon, Nicholas Mellon and Frank Mellon, all of Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Peninsula Funeral Home by Dr. V. Allen Gaines. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Riverside Cancer Patient Fund.
