BACKMAN, Fay Marion - 71 (September 2, 1936 - May 31, 2008). On May 31, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., Fay passed away peacefully in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, after fighting a lengthy battle with a rare lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis. Born in the community of the Forties, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Hazel (Hiltz) Meister. Fay was a very dedicated member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 88, Chester Basin. She was a great seamstress for many years. Her loves were camping, fishing and Blue Grass Jamborees, and a very important part of her life was spending good times with her friends and making sure everyone smiled. She is survived by her loving and faithful husband, Philip "Phil", Bridgewater; her only daughter, Rebecca (Becky), Forties; grandson, Jamie Fralic, Bridgewater; sisters, Marguerite (John Rolfe), Halifax; Peggy Bale, Florida; Jean (Ernest Pile), Ontario; brother, Charlie Meister, Bridgewater. She was predeceased by brothers, Delbert and Kenneth Meister; sister, Helen Outhit. Cremation has taken place under the direction of R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Graveside memorial service 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Augustines Anglican Cemetery, Forties, Peggy Hamlin officiating. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association. Heartfelt thanks to all the medical staff on the 4th floor of South Shore Regional Hospital for all the kindness that they showed to our loved one.
