SHEFFIELD - Lenora Mae Meints Koenigsberg, 85, of Sheffield, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at her home.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday at Zion Reformed Church, rural Sheffield, with the Rev. Art Zewert presiding. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield.
Lenora was born Dec. 21, 1926, in Thornton, Iowa, to Lizzie Steenhard Meints and Abbe Conrad Meints. She grew up on the the family farm south of Thornton and lived there for 81 years, until she moved into Sheffield in the spring of 2008. She attended country school for eight years and graduated from Thornton High School in 1944.
On Dec. 4, 1946, Lenora was united in marriage with Robert (Bob) Dale Koenigsberg. Robert passed away Nov. 8, 2007, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
Lenora and Bob did everything together with their pet animals and neighbor kids. They enjoyed golfing, fishing, horseback riding and snowmobiling, among other pastimes. One year they went fishing in Clear Lake, in their boat, 36 times.
Lenora and her husband hosted an annual Halloween party for their family and friends with elaborate costumes worn by those attending. She was noted for her New Year's Day Speckin Dicken which was enjoyed by family and friends.
Lenora was an active member of the Zion Reformed Church where she played the organ and taught Sunday School. She also was a 4-H leader for six years. Lenora was diagnosed with leukemia in 2004.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband. She is survived by four brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.
