Below is from the Frederick News, Monday, December 24, 1945.

Charles Frederick Mehrling, a resident of Frederick his entire life, died at the Emergency Hospital Saturday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock after an immediate illness of two weeks of general debility, aged 80 years, 5 months and 16 days.

Deceased was a son of the late George and Barbara Englebrecht Mehrling, both natives of Germany. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. William S. Lewis of Frederick, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild one sister, Mrs. Kate Perry of Lewistown, besides a number of nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Grace Reformed Church and Independent Hose Co., No. 1. Mr. Mehrling in his younger days was a well-known butcher and conducted a meat stand at the Old Market House. In politics he was a Democrat and served as special deputy at the jail under Sheriffs Crum, Hiltner, Anders and Alexander.

The body rests at the funeral home 8 East Patrick street where friends may call. Services there this afternoon at 3:45 o'clock with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. C. E. Cline and Son, funeral directors.
