Harry Mefford of Hunnewell vicinity, send the following paragraph account of the accident which took from earth his dear boy. Mention of his death was given in this paper at the time 09 Sept. 1891.

Fairplay, Colo., July 21, Albert Mefford, a teamster hauling ore from the Hill Top mine up Horseshoe, met a terrible and accidental death to-day just this side of the mine while driving his heavily loaded wagon to Fairplay. The road is in a very bad condition, made so by twenty-four and six horse teams daily passing over it, and large boulders working to the surface as the lighter rock and dirt are worn away.
Mefford's wagon struck one of these large boulders and threw him from his seat. Seeing his danger he grabbed for the brake in falling, but missing it, fell under the hind wheel which passed over his body.
Aid was near at hand and the poor fellow was tenderly carried towards the nearest cabin. He told them his limbs were getting cold and that something must be done quickly, and before they reached cover he bade the boys good-bye and died without a struggle.
Mefford was a steady, hard-working young man of about 27 years, and the friend of all the boys who drove the road. He had been in the county about two years, coming from Shelby,Missouri, where his parents reside. News of his death has been sent East to learn what disposition to make of the body.
