Betty J. Airgood age 85, of New Philadelphia, died early Saturday, January 30, 2010, in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover following a brief illness. A daughter of the late Elmer and Edna (Mason) Meese, Betty was born in New Philadelphia on May 12, 1924. Betty attended New Philadelphia High School and would soon marry a young man named Robert Airgood. Together the couple would rear twin children, a son, and a daughter. For a number of years, Betty was a familiar face at the former Hello Shop located in the Miracle Lane Plaza, where she served as the store's manager. Following her twenty-year career, she would go on to work at the Book Center, also located in the plaza for an additional five years prior to her retirement. During her free time, Betty enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and dancing. She also enjoyed sharing her musical talents at the organ and on the ukulele. Perhaps the time Betty cherished most was the time spent with her family and sharing in fellowship and telling stories and jokes. In earlier years, Betty was also active as a member of the Mothers of Twins Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary for the former New Philadelphia Moose Lodge. Betty leaves behind her family which includes her children, Cheryl (Nick) Incarnato, and Robert (Barbara) Airgood all of New Philadelphia; a brother, Lloyd (Wanda) Meese of Atlanta, Georgia; and a sister-in-law, Carroll Meese of New Philadelphia. Five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren complete the family. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, two brothers, and a granddaughter. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Monday, February 1, 2010, from 10:00 â?? 11:00 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Reverend Chad Durfee will lead a celebration of Betty's life in the funeral home's chapel Monday at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. The family requests that memorial contributions in Betty's name be directed to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W 3rd Street, Dover, Ohio 44622.
