Eva Christine Meek Thrasher, 59, of Brandon, MS, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, in Laurel, MS.

Visitation was held Friday, June 18, 2010, from 5-8pm at Wise Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora.

Funeral services will be held today at 11am at the First United Methodist Church in Eupora with Rev. Trey Harper officiating. Burial will follow at the Eupora City Cemetery.

Christi Thrasher was born in Houston, MS, on August 11, 1950. She is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Buchanan Meek, Sr. of Eupora. She graduated from Eupora High School in 1968 and Millsaps College in 1972. Christi was employed by Gayfer's Department Store for 22 years as a store manager. She was a teacher for Jackson Public Schools and was later employed by Mississippi Department of Employment Security. Christi was a member of DAR, Zeta Tau Alpha and United Methodist Women; and was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Eupora, Crossroads Methodist Church of Brandon, Ms., and recently joined First Baptist Church of Jackson, MS.

She is survived by her two children, Melanie Christine Brown Steenwyk of Ocean Springs, MS, Christopher Michael Thrasher of Flora, MS.; one brother, Walter Buchanan Meek, Jr. of Eupora, MS.; and one sister, Joyce Meek Yates of Eupora, MS.; and four grandchildren, Timothy Steenwyk, Stephen Steenwyk, Gabriel Steenwyk, and William Thomas Buchanan Thrasher.

Pallbearers will include Christopher Thrasher, Timothy Steenwyk, Bill Yates, Burrell Brown, Will Gary, Buchanan Meek III, Derrald Thrasher, Rick McClelland, and Arthur Emmett Meek.

Christi will be remembered for her endless faith and love for God, as well as her love and encouragement that she gave to other people. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
