The single-engine Piper Cherokee plane had taken off from Stuart-Atkinson Airport in northern Nebraska late Friday en route to Lincoln, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Sandra Campbell said.
The plane, the trailer and part of the shed were destroyed by the fire, authorities said.
FAA officials began investigating the crash Saturday.
There was heavy fog at the time of the crash, Atkinson Fire Chief Ken Ziska Jr. said.
Authorities said all of the victims were from Valentine, including First National Bank of Valentine President George Medlock, 47, and former University of Nebraska tight end Jerry List, 43.
