Carl Medicine Blanket entered the Spiritual World on December 25, 2013, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, at the Ben Looking White Hall in Norris, S.D. He was laid to rest next to his mother at the Cedar Butte Family Cemetery.

Benjamin "Carl" Joseph Medicine Blanket was born June 4, 1957, to Madeline Medicine Blanket at the Rosebud IHS Hospital. He was raised by his mother Maudi and his grandparents Henry and Lucy Medicine Blanket.

Carl grew up 12 miles North of Norris, S.D., and attended school at Norris Elementary and graduated from the eighth grade at White River, S.D. In 1976, Carl moved to Cheyenne River and there he acquired life long friends and family. In 1994, he obtained his GED and attended United Tribes Technical College for a time. Later he attended Cheyenne River Community College and in 1999, received a degree in Carpentry.

Carl eventually moved back to Norris, S.D., and remained there until the end. During this time he drove bus for the Sinte Gleska University and also attended classes there. He received a degree in Technologies/Building Trades in 2001. He was also a member of the Board of Commissioners for the SWA Corp for Rosebud Housing.

During his lifetime Carl embarked on numerous adventures and had many accomplishments of which he was very proud. Carl worked very hard and excelled at every job he held. He believed there was always room for improvement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors when he could and helping during Sundance. Carl loved spending time visiting and joking with his family and friends especially his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Grateful for having shared his life are his brother Charles Medicine Blanket of Colorado, his children Angela Medicine Blanket of Tucson, Arizona, Cody Medicine Blanket of Rapid City, SD and Carlee Ann Medicine Blanket of Eagle Butte, S.D., his grandchildren Wayne and Andrew Good Eagle, David Edwards Jr., Jada, Benjamin and Lakota Medicine Blanket, and Leila, Rylee Ann and Eli Miner.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Madeline Medicine Blanket, his grandparents, Henry and Lucy Medicine Blanket, Uncles Joseph, Norman and Luther Medicine Blanket, Aunts Rose and Marcella Medicine Blanket.
