SHREVEPORT, LA - Van Flett was born June 15, 1925 and died Friday, June 4, 2010.
When she graduated from LSU in 1947, she became hostess to a woman's radio show in Shreveport. She married Deane R. Flett, who was also in radio at the time. Together they produced three children--Laura, Bruce, and Bud (Deane Jr.)
Using her degree in drama she took on the role of mother, Pi Beta Phi province president, and active member of Chapter R of PEO and the choir at First Methodist Church. When her children became adults she shared her creativity as an aide at Broadmoor Jr. High. It was at this time that she also assumed the part of attentive grandmother to Carlton Harris, Avery Flett, Jacob Flett, and Laura Beth Flett.
For the past two years she has been attended to by a loving, caring staff at Garden Park Nursing Home, a willing audience for her stories and advice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Deane and grandson, Carlton.
A memorial service will be held in Couch Chapel, First United Methodist Church on Monday, June 7 at 11:00. Dr. Carl Rhoads will officiate. A visitation will follow in the parlor. Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath
