Robert McBrayer, 78, of the 800 block of Jolima Ave., died Jan. 25, 1998 in his residence.

Born in Greenup County, Ky., he retired from the Navy as a BTCM after 28 years and retired from civil service after 17 years. He was a member of Pearl Harbor Survivors, Fleet Reserve, American Legion, DAV and Masonic Lodge (NU)1095 in Illinois. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa S. McBrayer; a daughter, Elizabeth J. Hage and husband, Mike Hage of Norfolk; a son, Noel Sterling of Norfolk; a sister, Inez Pitts of Carlisle, Ohio; two brothers, William McBrayer of Greenup, Ky., and Ralph McBrayer of Wheelersburg, Ohio; and a grandchild, Michael Anthony Hage of Norfolk.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be accorded. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. Memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
