Ruth Eleanor McNeely Albonesi
Birth: Oct. 30, 1888
Saint Josephs
Sullivan County
New York, USA
Death: Jan. 4, 1922
Sullivan County
New York, USA

The following was copied from a handwritten obituary believed written by family friend, Hazel McSween, that was rewritten and published by the Republican Watchman on January 6, 1922.

The sudden death of Mrs. Ruth Eleanor McNeely was such a shock, and shows how uncertain is life. She came to Monticello on the day before Christmas with her 4 children for one of her happy reunions with her mother, Mrs. Seth Pelton, her sisters and many friends. She was in the best of health. On the 31st of December she was stricken with a chill and one after another followed. Monticello and Middletown doctors held a consultation and everything known to medical skill was employed, but in spite of care and skill, she slipped away and went out into the larger life. She lived just five days after being stricken.

She was born at St. Joseph's on October 30, 1888 to Isaac McNeely and Minnie Garner McNeely. Therefore, she was 33 years, 2 months and 5 days old. Fourteen years ago, November 20, 1907, she was married to Charles Albonesi, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Walter I. Stecher of St. John's Church.

Mrs Albonesi would occasionally come home from New Jersey where she lived, to visit her mother and sisters and friends and they were great reunions. The last homecoming was more joyous apparently than any of the others.

She was a most unselfish woman, unselfish to a fault. It was not herself that commanded her thoughts and worries, but her family, relatives and friends. If they were happy, she was happy, if they were unhappy, then she was unhappy. She was always hunting around to get something to please someone, and when she found it she was as happy as the recipient. That was the predominating trait of her girlhood, and as she grew old she did not depart from it.

Surviving her are her husband and four children, Ruth, Evelyn, Alice, and Thomas, her mother and three sisters, Sarah of Washington, Florence, wife of J. V Taylor, and Frances of Brooklyn.

The funeral will occur on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM at the Episcopal Church.
