Betty Louise McNear Eder, 78, of Brighton Twp., formerly of Center Twp., passed away Thursday evening, September 27, 2012, with her loving family surrounding her.

She was born to the late Harry Clinton and Lena Gertrude (Hawk) McNear in Rochester, on April 13, 1934. She was one of 12 children. Betty attended Rochester High School.

Betty was a member of the Salvation Army Church in Rochester, where she had taught Junior Soldiers. A Sunday School teacher, she was also a member of the Home League Auxiliary and served on The League of Mercy. She received the Woman of the Year award in May 2012 for the northeast division of the Salvation Army. She has also received many volunteer awards for her work with the food bank, Angel Trees and Project Bundle Up. Betty and her sister, Isabelle Barber, volunteered their services to work on the Salvation Army canteen at the US Air Flight 427 plane crash in Hopewell Township in 1994. She received an award from the American Cancer Society for being a breast cancer survivor.

Betty touched many lives and many have touched hers.

She married the late Fred Eder on September 26, 1951, and had resided in Center Township until Fred's passing in 1982. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; always ready to help others in any way she could. If there was one thing she would want from us, she would want the people she helped or touched in any way to pay it forward.

Betty is survived by her children, Beverly Jean Flint and fiancÚ, John Lehman, of Monaca; Patricia Faye Eder of Brighton Township, with whom she resided, and Elizabeth Hinkle of Largo, Fla.; a son-in-law, Robert Wosotowsky and a daughter-in-law, Valarie Alexander; grandchildren, Cara Bombardier, Emily Flint, Tom McNear, Brad (Ashley) McNear, Jessie (Trish) McNear, Shannon (Aaron) Howard, Heidi Wosotowsky, Ben Wosotowsky and Michelle (Paul) Storm; great-grandchildren, Hilary Flint, Brendan and Jacob Bombardier, Olivia Heimel, Shawn, Shane and Andrea Howard, Sydney and Brady McNear, Logan and Kiera McNear and Aralyn Storm. She will also be missed by her only surviving brother, Mickey McNear; sisters, Isabelle Barber, Claudia (Jack) Wier and Juanita (Richard) Stillwagon; sisters-in-law, Cel McNear, Dorothy McNear, Helen McNear, Marie Sciaretta, Eileen Eder and Alice Eder; many nieces and nephews and her loving companions, Bella, Daisey and Bridgette.

In addition to her husband, Fred, Betty was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Keith McNear in March 2012; a daughter, Donna Wosotowsky in April 2007; brothers, Harold, Harry Louis (Marie), William, Robert, John (Jenny) and James McNear; a sister, Anabelle (Robert) Stillwagon; brothers-in-law, Harry, Robert, Frank (Gloria) Eder and Charles Sciaretta, and a very special aunt, Annabelle Hawk.

Friends and family will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES,1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, 724-728-4000. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Monacrest Free Methodist Church, 995 Elmira Street, Monaca, with Envoy Nancy and John Barrett officiating.

Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Gregg Zernich for the loving care he gave to Betty. Special thanks to Dr. Zernich's office staff, Concordia Visiting Nurses and Vitas Hospice not only for her care, but also for the care of her family as well.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family, in care of Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, would be appreciated.
