|Birth: ||Jan. 9, 1808|
New York, USA
|Death: ||May 1, 1891|
Records give varying birth years for her: 1806, 1807 and 1808. Her parents were William and Nancy Brown McNeal. Her death record gives her parents names as Joseph and Nancy McNeal of New York. However, this appears to be in error as there was no Joseph McNeal living in New York during this era. The records of Ann's brother, Giles McNeal reveal that William was a shoemaker and moulder by trade. William appears to have died between 1810 and 1820. It is thought that the McNeal family may have previously lived in Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania before locating in New York.
Nancy Brown appears to have had a brother or close relative named Joseph Brown (1771-1808). The informant who provided information on Ann's death record likely couldn't remember Ann's father's name but remembered the name Joseph and somehow addled the names. This is a case in point as to why death records shouldn't be used as birth records as accuracy is not always the best and many years may have passed since the subject was born; in this case 83 years passed. Both Giles's and Ann's records show their mother's name as Nancy. The Browns came from Massachusetts.
There was a migration of families from Tioga Co., New York to Scioto Co., Ohio in the 1820s. Some of the families included in the migration: Brown, Ransom, McNeal, Giles, Rockwell and Patterson. At least part of the McNeal family including Giles and Ann migrated to Scioto Co., Ohio where Ann married John Huston in 1827. She was the mother of 8 children: Jane Ann, Henry Clay, Ferdinand W., Flora Sidney (Huston) Allen, William G., Sarah E. (Huston) Hardy, Frances and Darius R.
She was age 83 years 3 months and 22 days at death. She died from Pneumonia. Burial place not mentioned but may be in Olmsted Co., Minnesota.
