Mrs. Cassell was born on May 6, 1915 in Patrick, SC. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Malcolm and Nellie Douglass McNair and the wife of the late Thomas Albert Cassell. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Upon graduation from Winthrop College in 1936 with a BS in Commerce, Mrs. Cassell went to work in Washington, DC for the Veteran's Administration. Later she moved to Charleston, SC and worked for the U.S. Navy Department.
In 1941 she met and married Thomas A. Cassell. As newly weds they moved to Midway Park from Beaufort, SC. Upon completion of the U.S. Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune they moved to housing on the base and she resumed her career as a civil service employee at the U.S. Naval Hospital.
Mrs. Cassell retired on May 10, 1974, with 21 years of service. In retirement she volunteered her services and secretarial skills at her church, the Onslow County Library, the Onslow Memorial Hospital pink ladies, the Council on Aging and NARFE.
She is survived by her daughter Ann C. Mullis and her husband Steve, her son, Thomas McNair Cassell and five grandchildren; Charles T. Mullis, Daniel M. Mullis, Paul M. Cassell, Natalie T. Cassell and Thomas H. Cassell and several nieces and nephews.
