Birth: Apr. 24, 1839
Guernsey County
Ohio, USA
Death: Oct. 14, 1916

The Correctionville News, 19 October 1916, page 1: Jane McMullin was born to Mr. and Mrs. James McMullen in Guernsey Co., Ohio, April 24, 1839, and died of paralysis at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.F. Shoemaker on October 14, 1916, aged 77 years, 5 months and 20 days. The deceased spent her childhood days in her native state and moved with her parents to Grant Co., Wisconsin, when 17 years old. It was at that place she met Vellorous Heath to whom she was wed in 1858. To their union were born two daughters and four sons, five of whom are living: Mrs. Cora Shoemaker and Vellorous Heath of Correctionville, Walter P. Heath of Bronson, Frank D. Heath of Vivan, South Dakota, and Charles W. Heath of Anthon. About three years after their marriage her husband volunteered his services to the nation at the outbreak of the Civil War and during all the years of the war, Mrs. Heath was one of the innumerable women whose fortitude and pluck maintained the home until the return of their loved ones. Six years after the close of the war Mrs. Heath with her husband and children moved west, locating in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, in 1871 and in the spring of 1882 they moved to Woodbury County, Iowa, locating near Rock Branch. It was during their residence at Rock Branch that her husband passed away on October 25, 1891. A few years after his death Mrs. Heath moved to Correctionville and she has since resided at this place. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Correctionville and was a devoted Christian, ever in her place in the church during the hours of worship, until the infirmities of old age forbade. Besides the children, she is survived by one sister and three brothers, Mrs. Rachel Pettit of Watertown, South Dakota, Samuel McMullin of Tekamah, Nebraska, John McMullin of Lucas, Kansas, and William McMullen of the state of Washington. There are twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted from the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Shoemaker last Monday afternoon in charge of Rev. Mark Masters, assisted by Rev. A. Jamieson and Rev. J.A. Campbell, and the body was laid to rest beside her husband and daughter in the Rock Branch Cemetery.
