George B. McManus, 98, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009.

He was the son of the late Robert F. and Cadelia Funderburke McManus. George was born in Lancaster County, SC.

George is survived by a daughter, George Anna and her husband Allen Holt of Mineral Springs, NC; grandsons, Harry A. Merritt and Thom J. Deason of Charlotte; great grandson, Nicholas J. Deason; step-grandson, Alan C. Holt, step-granddaughter, Sloane and her husband Derek Johnson of Harmony, NC, and their children, D.J. and Hannah.

George was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Hazel McManus.

He retired from Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. He was a member of Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church. Mr. McManus had also served as an elder and deacon at Commonwealth Presbyterian Church. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and he was a volunteer for many years with friendship trays.
