Anita June Amy, 87, of Battle Creek, formerly living at Beadle Lake; passed away quietly Saturday afternoon March 27, 2010 at Kozy Komfort Senior Living Home in Battle Creek, MI.

She was born February 17, 1923 in Lake Odessa, MI the daughter of Harold McLeod and Martha (Robison) McLeod. She moved after graduating in 1940 from Lake Odessa High School to Battle Creek where she was employed as a Michigan Bell telephone operator prior to meeting her husband Robert M. Amy in 1942. They were wed on August 28, 1943 at Pecos, Texas while he was being trained as a P38 pilot in the Army Air Corp. She was a stay at home mother who went to work again later in life at Harper Creek Public Schools and the Willard Public Library for several years before retiring in the 1980's.

She is survived by three sons: Ronald M. (Sabrina) Amy, Battle Creek, MI; Robert Manuel (Carol) Amy of Evans, GA; David Michael Amy of Claremont, Minnesota; and her daughter: Jan Michelle (Dennis) Quigg of Franklin, TN; seven grandchildren: Christina (Tim) Hallwas; Jennifer (Todd) Zills; Marc (Sara) Amy; Michael (Amy) Amy; David (Amy) Amy; Angela (Jason) Barron; and Clancy Amy; nine great grandchildren; three special friends: Jan O'Brien of Battle Creek and Flo & Ken Thurman of Dawsonville, GA; two brothers: Dean McLeod of Saranac, MI; Max (June) McLeod of Grand Ledge, MI; sister in law: Pearl McLeod of Ionia, MI; and brother-in-law: Loyd Ulrey of Holt, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in Dec. 1989, three brothers: Ron McLeod, Lyle McLeod, and Robert McLeod; her only sister: Geraldine Ulrey; her step brother: Vance Disbrow and daughter-in-law: Vickie Amy.

Anita was a member of the Calhoun County Retired School Personnel. She was an avid reader; she enjoyed making latch-hook rugs, and loved to bake – making "the best chocolate chip cookies in the world" (according to her family).

Visitation with a gathering of friends and relatives will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Friday (May 14, 2010) from 4-7:00 P.M. Memorial services commemorating the life of Anita J. Amy will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Father Charles Fischer of St. Philip Catholic Church officiating. Entombment of the cremains will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Cremation has been conducted. Memorial tributes may be made to Lifespan-Good Samaritan Hospice Care.
