Montgomery Monitor Sept. 20, 1906
No greater shock has come to Mt. Vernon than that produced by the death of Mrs. Myrtle Avret, wife of Mr. L.L. Avret, at Mcrae in the early morning hours of last Friday. She had been sick with a fever about five weeks. About eleven weeks ago, June 24th, she stood in the home here, where had presided over her father's household since the death of her mother some years ago, and plighted her wedding vows. The friends and loved ones saw her go away a happy bride, and on Friday afternoon her lifeless form was returned to us, clad in the bridal robes that adorned her queenly person on that joyous day.
In her last hours she was permitted to look beyond the confines of this earhtly sphere, and in language akin to that of the angels, told of the wondrous beauty of that land of heavenly rest toward which her feet and been journeying since early girlhood. She arranged the details of her own funeral, selecting the songs that dear friends tearfully rendered as her mortal remains were laid to rest on the hill beside her mother.
Mrs. Avret was the eldest daughter of Judge L.B. McLemore, and the charming sunlight of only 22 earthly summers had shone upon her happy life, when the master called her home, to enjoy the glad fruition of a ripened Christian life. Her pastor, Rev. Charles Montgomery of the Presbyterian church, had charge of the obsequies, assisted by Rev. J.B. Griner of the Methodist church.
Like the sorrowing ones, we can scarely realize that our young friend has gone from us.
