John F. McLaughlin, at 79, of Norwell, Korea veteran
John F. "Jack" McLaughlin of Norwell, a Korean War veteran and retired
facilities manager at Raytheon in Quincy, died Saturday at South Shore Hospital
in Weymouth surrounded by his family. He was 79.
Born in Boston, Mr. McLaughlin graduated from Boston Technical School in 1947
when he was 16 and attended Boston College but left to enlist in the Army.
Mr. McLaughlin served as a staff sergeant in the Army from 1951 to 1953.
Mr. McLaughlin was the facilities manager at Raytheon in Quincy, where he worked
for 38 years, retiring in 1992. He was also director of operations of the USS
Salem, part of the U.S. Naval Shipbuilding Museum in Quincy.
A founder of the Norwell Youth Hockey Association, Mr. McLaughlin coached
Norwell Youth Hockey for many years and was a life member of the Knights of
Columbus Rose Croix Council, a member of the Samuel Turner Post American Legion
and a member, lector and Eucharistic minister of St. Helen's Parish Council. He
was also an avid fisherman, hunter, Boston Herald reader and a longtime Boston
Bruins fan.
Mr. McLaughlin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marion (Moriarty); six
children, Sheila Brown and her husband, Stephen, of Hingham, Paula Dwinell and
her husband, Joe, of Holliston, John McLaughlinJr. and Cynthia Rousseau of
Norwell, Maura McLeod and her husband, Kevin, of Hanover, Pamela Berigan and her
husband, Paul, of Hingham, and Anthony and his wife, Veronica, of Norwell; four
brothers, Eugene of South Carolina, James of Maine, Michael of Duxbury and
Thomas of East Harwich; two sisters, Louise Landen of Westboro and Mary McSoley
of Westwood; and 16 grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Helen Church, Norwell.
Burial will be in Washington Street Cemetery, Norwell.
