Capt Henry J. McLandburgh
Birth: unknown
Death: Dec. 14, 1862

The 17th Infantry Regiment was in the Army of the Potomac in Sykes' Division of the 5th Army Corps.

At Fredericksburg VA the 17th suffered heavy losses in the assault on the famous stone wall at Marye's Heights. For the entire day (December 13, 1862) the men of the 17th lay flat on the ground eighty yards in front of the stone wall, behind which the enemy was posted in large numbers, and any movement on their part was sure to draw the fire of rebel sharpshooters. Sadly, these same men and hundreds (if not thousands) of others spent that night in freezing cold temperatures lying on the frozen ground using anything for cover, including the dead.

The 17th Infantry Regiment lost Captain McLandburgh, and two men killed and nineteen men wounded.
