“Memorial service for Davenport resident Kate McBurney was held Wednesday at the Chapel of Strate Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve McLachlan officiating.

Mrs. McBurney died Sept 23 in Davenport. She was 42. She was born June 13, 1953, in Koppen, Germany. Her father, Kenneth, was in the Air Force, so she got to travel around the world, making stops in Germany, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Florida, England, NY, ND, and Massachusetts.

In 1969, she moved to Spokane where she attended Lewis and Clark High School. She played on the high school golf team and graduated in 1971. She attended EWU for three years, where she wanted to study to become a physical therapist. While attending EWU, she worked as a physical therapist aide.

Then, she spent some time with her parents in Baja, CA. Upon her return, she went to work for an insurance company for a short while. In 1976, she went to work at Spokane Mortgage Co, where she started work as a cashier. She later worked as a loan processor and then as a loan closer. She was married to Bruce E. McBurney on July 15, 1978, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Spokane.

In August 1980, she terminated her position at Spokane Mortgage Co and moved to Davenport with her husband. After her children were born, she stayed at home to raise them. She did day care in her home until June of 1992.

Mrs. McBurney is survived by her husband Bruce at the home; two children, Aharon and Amanda, both at the home; her parents, Kenneth and Jane McKnight of Spokane; one brother and his wife, Steve and Jessica Lee McKnight of Spokane; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
