APACHE - Funeral for Maxine Mary McKnight, 89, Apache, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Apache, with the Rev. Leon Shade officiating.
Mrs. McKnight died Wednesday, March, 18, 2009 in Lawton.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under direction of Crews Funeral Home, Apache.
She was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Kiefer, to George A. and Bessie Herin Mizer. After graduating from high school, she worked in the Veteran's Affairs Administration in Washington D.C. during World War II. She moved back to Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma Baptist University, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. She taught music in Seminole, Cement and Anadarko. She married Joe Ben "J.B." McKnight on July 27, 1961, in Anadarko. She left the teaching profession and moved to Apache. She and her husband owned McKnight's Hardware in Apache until they retired in 1980. She was a member of the Apache Chamber of Commerce until she retired. She gave piano lessons and played piano and organ for more than 77 years. She was a member of and had been the organist at First Baptist Church of Apache since 1961. She also participated in activities at the Apache Senior Nutrition Center.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Lisa Burch, Blanchard; two grandsons and a grandaughter-in-law: Micah and Melissa Burch, and Wayne Burch; three great-granddaughters: Madison Burch, Ashton Burch and Sydney Burch; and a brother and sister-in-law, George Jr. and Lee Mizer, Tulsa.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and a sister, Rosalie McCool.
