Novella McKisaack was the second child of William Wood McKissack Sr and Margaret Susan Clara Gassiot McKissack. She was the only daughter who did not attend college, as she was the oldest living child and helped with the others. Her father William, had gone into town to hire some farm hands, which is where he found Lee Manson Causey. Causey was from Hill County , Texas. She married Lee Manson Causey on Feb 21 1915 at her home by Justice of the Peace A.D Talley. Her dress was a brocaded pongee dress, with deep lace ruffles over the shoulders. A wide belt was fastened with a pin in front. The seven gored skirt was just above her ankles. High velvet-topped, patent bottomed shoes were buttoned on each side. Her hair was in a roll around her head underneath which was a rat. My grannie must have been a sight to see !
Manson and Novella lived in several different locations, finally settling across the road from her fathers town, Oxien, Texas where they lived out the rest of their life together. Manson lived with their daughter and family, Addie Faye Causey McBurney, after Novella passed, where he passed away in 1980.They named their home "Trails End".
The couple would drive up and down the road and grannie would see a cotton field and have grandpa ask if they could work the field. She thought the fields were so pretty.
They had 9 children, the youngest was my mom, Addie Faye Causey McBurney.
Novella was a product of smart and strong parents. Their history is one that is very interesting and exciting.
