Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home - Earlville - Margaret A. "Peg" Carter, 89, of Springfield, IL formerly of Earlville, IL passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 in St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born August 27, 1921 in College Springs, Iowa, the daughter of Ira and Mary (Gabby) McKinley. She married Richard Miller in December of 1941, following his death during WWII she married R. Forrest Carter on September 11, 1945 in College Springs, Iowa. She taught Kindergarten at the Earlville Schools for over 30 years. She was a member of the Earlville United Presbyterian Church, D.A.R., LaSalle County Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed being a farmer's wife, traveling, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son, R. Philip (Rita) Miller of Athens, IL; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Carter of Earlville, IL ; six grandchildren, Gregory (Sonoe) Miller, Richard (Paula) Miller, Michele Miller, Adam (Susan) Carter, Mark (Lauren) Carter and Laura (Scott) Diedrich; four great grandchildren, Grace and Faith Miller, Abigail and Dylan Carter; two brothers, Robert (Barbara) McKinley of Siler City, NC and Donald (Joyce) McKinley of Quincy, IL and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both her husbands, Richard Miller and R. Forrest Carter; one son, Craig Carter; two brothers, Harold McKinley and Joseph McKinley and one sister, Martha McCleary.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2011 at United Presbyterian Church in Earlville, IL with Pastor Del Keilman officiating. Burial will follow at Precinct Cemetery in Earlville. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the church. Memorials may be directed to Earlville United Presbyterian Church or the Earlville Foundation for Excellence in Education.
